My X husband died of HPV cancer in his throat and tongue at nearly 61 yrs old, years after our dissolved 10 year marriage. He told me he knew he got it in college from a girlfriend. She, the old girlfriend, contacted me after his death asking what kind of cancer took him. I told her, she got tested and yes, she tested positive. Her female wife died of cancer soon afterwards. I got tested once he had 4th stage since we'd been married 10 years and had 2 children together and I was fine and had been super healthy during our marriage. I'm 65 this year and it's been 25 years since my exposure through my husband. His lay dormant for over 35 years before it activated. I do believe my healthy immune system dealt with it back then. But if his wasn't activated was I really exposed? The original carrier who tested positive is in her 70s and still ok. Dis-ease , I believe IS dependant on the health and well-being of the host. X husband took up smoking and drinking before it "woke up". I do neither. I hope this sharing helps
