As a child watching Superman, I always marvelled at the two crystals. One that drained life force. One that held the voice and knowledge of his ancestors. Vedic knowledge arrived in exactly this way, first as Śruti, that which was heard, direct transmission from source. Then carried forward as Smṛti, the living memory of ancestors. And then Patanjali describes the mind in samādhi as sphaṭika, a pure crystal that takes the color of what meets it. This was a precise description of a state of pure, unobstructed receiving (I did not perceive this as a metaphor). And then two teenagers in Cleveland in the 1930s, drawing from grief and imagination(and ancient wisdom of the Gholem), encoded all of this into a glowing crystal and a fortress of ice. Goosebumps.
