I have been waiting for a long time for someone to write about something natural that can be used for Hashimoto’s. I was diagnosed with this condition in 2022 and although it comes with a myriad of symptoms, the most troubling is the dry mouth at least for me. I am not one to use medicine if I don’t have to and have wanted to try something natural that would treat my thyroid issue. Thank you so much for doing a lengthy article.

I've written on this topic extensively in the past and have a database dedicated to your concern. I'll be sure to write more about this aspect in the near future: https://greenmedinfo.com/disease/hashimotos-thyroiditis

I tried, I can't use iodine, it causes eczema in me, probably related to a variation in my MTHR gene, I don't methylate well at all, I am sure iodine metabolism is intimately related to thyroid malfunction

Cushman's avatar

Have you seen Dr. David Brownstein's presentations on iodine? He has a book and there are many youtube videos. His daughters were cured of Hashimoto's with iodine.

Sharon's avatar

Be careful, some people can’t use iodine for hypothryroidism. They have a problem with absorption.

Sharon's avatar

I take Selenium with my Armour.

Se = Selenium = atomic # 34

Shasha's avatar

Iodine use needs Se with it to prevent antibodies.

Have you found Stop the Thyroid Madness (book or website). They have a lot of great information based on thyroid patient experience.

Iodine helps me when my mouth is dry. I take 25 mg Iodoral each morning. I keep Lugol's solution around for cuts. It stings. I also add it to 4 oz of water and swish when my mouth is dry. The liquid works faster than the pill. When I started, taking iodine after 2 PM meant I would not sleep well that night. Hence, I Take it in the morning. (Now, timing isn't a problem.) Not all thyroid patients respond well to iodine. Start with a low dose.

If you haven't already, stop drinking tap water. For me, too much fluoride makes me thirsty. My mouth feels like the Sahara desert kind of dry. I drink reverse osmosis water that I purchase at Whole Foods and carry it home in a 3-gallon glass carboy. Processed foods sometimes present a challenge. Black teas often contain fluoride.

Another medication the FDA successfully removed from the market is Dr Boyd Haley's OSR. It chelates mercury and other heavy metals. I hope it is returned to the market.

Check out Dr. Robert Yoho's Substack. He's written about Dr. Boyd Haley's OSR.

I also have Hashimoto's. I can only tolerate NP Thyroid and this would be a disaster for me. By the way, with Hashimotos you are inclined to get nodules, and it is nodules that thyroid cancer comes from. You are at increased risk of thyroid cancer with Hashimoto's anyway. Very important to keep TSH less than 2 to keep nodules from growing and thyroid meds will do that. If you haven't had an u!trasound get one to see if you have them

Gluten is in wheat/barley/rye....oats/corn/rice. Rice is low in gluten. Wild rice has no gluten. Gluten may make antibodies to the thyroid. 100% no gluten may help. Hidden gluten is common. LDN may help block some gluten. No gluten may prevent dry mouth. Dairy/soy/sugar/GMO corn, soy, canola oil may also hurt.

remember when the black market was for dangerous narcotics ? now it is the supply for treatments big pHARMa cant make enough profit on , we truly live in photonegative times

I have been on a BioIdentical hormone therapy program for over 20 years, which includes Armour Thyroid. I have to fight my insurance company to fill my RX each time I renew it. Then they only pay a pittance and the rest I pay out of pocket. I also have to renew the RX way in advance because it takes the pharmacy a long time to find it. Then I receive frequent letters from my insurance company telling me I need to change to a “synthetic” thyroid medication. This has been going on for over 20 years. Now to think that I may not be able to purchase MY CHOICE of medicine angers me! Yes, I will sign any petitions to help fight this tyrannical action!

Merry Lee's avatar

Sure seems like insurance companies should cover the drug cost of what works for the patient. I have to fight too, but only once a year.

Unfortunately, most thyroid specialists in Japan only prescribe levothyroxine (T4) preparations and do not use T3 preparations or measure reverse T3.

These specialists often diagnose hypothyroidism as "Hashimoto's disease" and continue to prescribe T4 formulations indefinitely.

As for mRNA PVS, following vaccination, cases of COVID-like viral thyroiditis, thyroid toxicity caused by LNP,

and eventually thyroid dysfunction or the onset of thyroid cancer have been frequently observed in my clinic. However, thyroid specialists are unaware of this new trend in clinical progression.

They are unaware that thyroid function can be restored with vitamin D, zinc, and selenium supplementation and that mRNA vaccines can cause thyroid dysfunction or "turbo thyroid cancer."

Dr. Makary of the FDA has emphasized the importance of hormone replacement therapy with estradiol and progesterone.

Yet, why does he fail to recognize the importance of natural, bioidentical hormones, which have fewer side effects, such as cancer and blood clots?

MAKE JAPAN HEALTH AGAIN, too❣

Sayer Ji's avatar

Dr. Fukuda, thank you for this valuable international perspective. It's concerning that Japanese specialists remain unaware of both the T3/reverse T3 issues and the emerging post-vaccination thyroid dysfunction. Your clinical observations about mRNA vaccine-related thyroid toxicity deserve wider recognition. The global nature of both the overreliance on T4 monotherapy and the emerging vaccine-related thyroid issues suggests we need international collaboration on these topics. MAKE JAPAN HEALTHY AGAIN indeed!

I look forward to your continued guidance❣

Thank you for posting this, as I have been fighting this battle for about 25 years. I got so tired of arguing about it with my doctors, that I just quit going to see them. Someday I hope to find a doctor who is able to understand this problem and prescribe Nature Thyroid.

Holly's avatar

Most naturopathic doctors can prescribe these. Good luck !!

Doc's avatar

Chiropractors, functional medicine, homeopathic physicians all can prescribe it. It’s readily available through Company such as standard process. It’s not a FDA prescription drug because there’s no money in it. Hence “it’s a big club and you ain’t in it”; absolutely criminal

Rosalind McGill's avatar

I appreciate standard process . Sensitive to fillers and dyes.

Rosalind McGill's avatar

My integrative medicine doctor is knowledgeable, I pay out of pocket to see him. He uses insurance for blood work and most tests .

Merry Lee's avatar

Look for a doctor in the BioTe network.

What I don't understand about the FDA is I thought the "white hats" were in and working in concert with MAHA. What the hell are they thinking?

John Wright's avatar

I've used ERFA (natural thyroid) very successfully for 15 years, but about ten years ago the price skyrocketed making it prohibitively expensive. Now it sounds like the situation is getting even worse.

Could we please eliminate the corruption? It's terrible to live under a government that is actively working against our health.

Susan G.'s avatar

I'm one of the millions that will be affected by this tyranny, so I'm pretty upset about it. I will sign any petition that comes my way for this crappy strategy by the FDA. I don't have Hashimoto's...I just have regular hypothyroidism, but have never found a cure for it so I have to rely on meds. The desiccated ones work the best (I take NP Thyroid) & that's probably why Big Pharma is pressuring the FDA to get rid of them.

Zana Carver, Ph.D.'s avatar

https://naturalthyroidsolutions.com/ works for me and I had thyroid cancer and removal of the entire gland.

Susan G.'s avatar

Thanks for the link...I'm checking it out now.

iheartpugs's avatar

I’m in the demographic most affected by this: post-menopausal women. I immediately became hypothyroid after having a radical hysterectomy at age 40, gaining 30 pounds in less than a month! Shortly after, I was diagnosed with osteoporosis. In my case, I convert T4 into Reverse T3, which blocks my T3 receptors from accepting T3. Therefore, T4-only meds are actively detrimental to my body.

Debra Prisk's avatar

Primal Panacea by Dr. Thomas Levy, he says osteoporosis is a vitamin C deficiency. You can take a wheel barrow of calcium (which he says is poison, do not ever take a calcium suppliment) and it won't go into your bones, you have scurvy of the bones...take vitamin C.

Sayer Ji's avatar

Indeed. There's also the immense problem of overdiagnosis in this category. I would consult my article on the topic here for a deeper dive: https://greenmedinfo.com/blog/osteoporosis-myth-dangers-high-bone-mineral-density

iheartpugs's avatar

So true, Debra! Love Dr. Levy - he's the reason I don't take any calcium supplements. Linus Pauling's got me taking enough Vitamin C. I believe D3 is also a really important one to take for osteoporosis, along with magnesium & K2. My doc checks my D levels twice a year - wants it between 80-100 ng/mL. I've read that breast cancer is treated at levels of 100-120 ng/mL.

While we're at it, it would be great to have natural thyroid paid for by insurance. I pay for mine out of pocket because it has been so helpful for me for over 10 years.

Jean's avatar

The Tyranny seems to never end.

STH's avatar

I support medical freedom and will write and share this. But I am one of the few for which Armour did not work. I’m allergic to it and got hives on my face after just a few days on it. I take Levo/lio and OTC T2 cream from Dr. Child’s.

Jennie Gibson's avatar

My naturopathic doctor made sure I take NP Thyroid because he said Armour has or may have gluten in it. It may be one of the other ingredients in Armour. I wonder if a different brand would be better for you.

Rosalind McGill's avatar

Have you tried n p thyroid? I’m sensitive to fillers and gluten and mold based additives. It’s helpful for me.

STH's avatar

No I have not. I might? It’s just so darn expensive and insurance will cover the lio and Levo.

Rosalind McGill's avatar

It’s a crime how expensive it is. In the old days, we could get the insurance company to waive the cost, last century.

Eleni's avatar

Isn't the FDA run by MAHA (the Trump administration), why is this such a struggle to do what's right for the people??

Thomas A Braun RPh's avatar

Illogical and life threating change. Who are the narrow minded FDA researchers that need to go back to school and learn.

Rosalind McGill's avatar

Thyroid ablated in 1993. I pay out of pocket for NP thyroid. Well worth the cost. Cirs and other autoimmune issues from a bad booster shot in 2001. This n p works so much better than levethyroxin or synthroid. I firmly believe that millions of women are on antidepressants when they just need a little thyroid medication. The testing is not very accurate that insurance approves.

Merry Lee's avatar

I agree 100%! Many woman would feel better with a little NDT. This is why Fluoride and chlorine must leave our water. They displace iodine in the body. Bromine and bromide too (found in fire retardant and bread).

Rosalind McGill's avatar

Iodine twice a day, helps my broken detox pathways. Reverse osmosis water or distilled helps as well. Thank you for your comment

Alex's avatar

Same story here! I could not function on levothyroxin, so I pay out of pocket.

Rosalind McGill's avatar

As expensive as it is, I’m thankful it works for me. I have genetic weakness with cues, only absorb 1/3 of my food and water. N p made a huge difference.

Rosalind McGill's avatar

Cirs not cues. Chronic inflammatory response syndrome.

Merry Lee's avatar

Great article! Thank you!

Zana Carver, Ph.D.'s avatar

I agree, great article! I use https://naturalthyroidsolutions.com/ and it's available without a prescription, works very well post thyroid cancer and thyroidectomy in 2005.
