I love flax but I usually use the whole seed. Some get crushed in my teeth but for the rest I guess I’m getting the benefit of the gelatinous coating. I do know that once you grind they need to be used promptly. Takes no time for the oils to get rancid. Never buy the pre ground flax.
THANK YOU for this incredible article about all the medicinal benefits of this incredible powerhouse seed! I never miss your articles as they are so Information-packed, every time! Thank you for all you do to keep us informed AND HEALTHY!
I grind orgnic flax seed and keep it in my freezer. Have done so for years now. The banana muffin recipe that I use has a 1/4 cup ground flax in it along with apple sauce and some maple syrup and of course mashed bananas! Coffee and my muffin starts my morning!
I follow Shaneandsimple.com (plant based recipes). It is his banana bread but I make it into muffins instead and bake for 23-24 minutes (depends on your oven) plus I add walnut pieces and dairy free choc chips. Will see if I can share the link - otherwise go to his site and look for his banana bread. People LOVE this recipe. https://shaneandsimple.com/best-vegan-banana-bread-recipe-healthy-easy/
i've ai'd the brown/golden question - brown's apparently stronger in anti-oxidants and taste, while golden's got more compounds beneficial to cardiovascular health
I know this article is about the seed, but I've been told that flaxseed oil can take two pathways, one is inflammatory and the other not. How does that relate to the seed?
Is this a typo? It reduced mens testosterone? That’s not good. Low T already in men today is prolific and a real problem. Maybe I read it wrong?
“In men with prostate cancer awaiting surgery, that same 30-gram daily dose over 34 days decreased total testosterone and free androgen levels, and reduced the tumor proliferation index.”
I've read that it does lower testosterone levels. In this article it states that it lowered testosterone levels in men with prostate cancer and I can see where it would be beneficial at that time, but wouldn't want to use it personally, unless it is a necessity. Just my opinion.
Thanks, I agree on those benefits. But what about the Cd content (also in organic produce) from the soil ( and foremost fertilizer), as discussed currently in France. Estimated 80-90% of the population have too high Cd values .
Key ingredient in my low GI seeded bread - gram/rye/ wholemeal flour - and topping with live yoghurt, whole full fat non homogenised milk, blueberries , chia and some honey…. Never mentioned by my GP Health Practice dietician and nowhere in any NHS leaflet given to me about diet … plenty on avoiding saturated animal fat, butter, red meat ….etcetc ( I am in England )…

That’s terrific thank you so much! I would also add walnuts and chocolate chips! ☺️
Is there a difference between buying flaxseed that is brown or the golden version? Which is best?
Great question.
I’ve also heard to grind fresh the amount one is to use rather than buy ready ground or batch grind?
I grind 50 grams at a time. I keep the powder in an airtight jar and keep the jar in the freezer. I have done this for the past 20 years.
Thank you so much that’s a great tip I would never had thought of using the freezer. Much appreciated!

I’m curious about how it affects men’s testosterone?
I’ve heard that it does

Flaxseed is one of the components of the Budwig diet, along with cottage cheese.

Know any Drs that prescribe ivermectin for cancer?
I eat a lotta flax seed. I buy it whole, sprinkle it on ceareal and salads, and enjoy the crunch. I chew it well to release nutrients. Love the stuff!
